Guided Prairie Chicken Hunts
Prairie Chickens are considered one of the only true trophy upland birds left in the world, and SD's population is the highest.This is a once in a lifetime bucket list hunt, that most upland hunters have never had the opportunity to see done correctly.
We have exclusively secured 15,000 acres of prime midwest prairie land. As a company, our main focus is to limit out on prairie chickens. You even have the opportunity to hunt a small mix of sharptail grouse.
What to Expect
Timing is key to hunting the "king of the prairie". The birds group into packs of 50-150 which enables them to scout for predators on the vast prairie. Using their defense to our advantage, our experienced team works extensively watching and scouting the birds to ensure that your hunt is successful. We will get you close enough for shots of 45-75 yard range.
The hunt is walking style, over pointing dogs, kept in close range to not bump the birds. Because they are so fast, this makes them the most challenging bird to hunt.

Package Details
- The South Dakota Prairie Chicken season runs from the 3rd Saturday in September through 1st weekend of January.
- South Dakota statewide limit of 3 prairie chickens per day, with possession limit of 15 per person.
- You can purchase a South Dakota hunting license online.

Frequently Asked Questions
For hunting or fishing, there is not a specific check in time. Pheasant hunts start at/after 10:00 am, so if you don’t have a fishing/duck excursion in the morning, you can relax and enjoy breakfast. Weather conditions determine feasibility of open-water fishing.
You are responsible for getting to SD Outfitters Unlimited. We are located at 404 5th St, Geddes, South Dakota 57342. After you arrive all transportation to and from the field is provided on our 4x4 short busses; which are equipped with TV/DVD. Dogs and guides are provided.
We staff a full kitchen with cooks ready to make each meal for you. Below is a list of what to expect each day:
- Breakfast – combination buffet and eggs made to order
- Lunch – Boat/Field lunch (sandwiches, water, soda, snacks)
- Appetizers – smoked meats and cheeses, dips
- Supper – salad bar, various soups, pheasant chili, walleye, and other main courses
Hunting Licenses need to be purchased online from the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks.
Any firearms and ammo you plan on using. Also, a cooler to bring your game home.
Shotgun Rentals are $75/day - Benelli M-2 Super Black Eagle 12 gauge (and others) are available.
Ammunition is available for purchase. $50/box - upland, $75/box - waterfowl.
There is trap shooting available as well.
We recommend: fluorescent hat, jacket/vest, briar resistant pants, comfortable walking shoes/boots. We do have hats and other blaze orange merchandise available for purchase. Temperatures vary throughout the day. You should plan to add or remove layers as needed.
All game is cleaned, packaged and frozen by your guide (included in the package). Bring a cooler for transporting home.

Ducks:
- Traditional limit: 6 and comprised of no more than: 5 Mallards, which may include no more than 2 hens, 1 Scaup, 3 Wood Ducks, 2 Redheads, 1 Pintail, 2 Canvasbacks
- 2 Bonus blue-winged teal (first 16 days of season only) Coots: 15
- 3-Duck Option: 3 ducks of any species or sex per day (possession limit 9 ducks)
- Hunters must select a duck limit regulation option when purchasing their South Dakota Migratory Bird Certificate.
- Possession limit is three times the daily limit for each species.
Snow Goose:
- Unlimited daily and possession limits.
Goose:
- Possession is based on the tag purchased.
Deer:
- Possession is based on the tag purchased.
- Lodge wifi is available for all guests. Password: gonefishing
- 85” television + multiple others, Dish Network

I recently visited the lodge as part of a pheasant hunting trip with customers. This place is first rate. We had a great time on our trip, and my customers really enjoyed themselves. - A 50% Deposit is required to Book Dates
- Short notice trips may increase Deposit %
- Deposits are non-refundable
- Cancellations must be made 90 days in advance of trip, to qualify for date change
- Date changes are assessed a $200 rebooking fee
- Deposits are transferable in a group if size stays the same
- Forfeit deposit for reduced quantity of people
- Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express are also accepted, a *3% CC fee is added to transaction
